November 2018

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Dear Friends,

Welcome to November's Newsletter

Last month I promised you that I would be focussing on "diffusing on the go" in this newsletter. What do I mean by diffusing on the go? Well, many of us have at least one beautiful dōTERRA diffuser at home (my current favourite being the Lumo). If you don't have a diffuser in every room yet, and trust me it's a slippery slope, it could be argued that "diffusing on the go" is the simple act of carrying your diffuser around the house. It's not what I had in mind though. What I had in mind was the opportunity to tap into the powerful benefits of inhaling the aroma of dōTERRA essential oils when we are not at home.

For some time, I have used a USB diffuser in the car. Whilst I don't put the diffuser on if I'm just popping out for a short drive (tempting as it is), I use the diffuser for longer journeys - for example if I am on my way to or from court, or if I am on my way to a meeting with a client.

What I am never keen on is wasting my time, or, to put it another way, not using my time in a fulfilling manner. It is for this reason that I downloaded the Audible App in January. I now listen to audio books as I drive along and am astonished by how quickly I can get through a book that would previously have taken me weeks to read on a stop-start basis as I tried to keep my eyes open around bedtime.  In the same vein, and because time sitting behind the wheel can be so utterly soul-destroying, I have really taken to diffusing in the car with great enthusiasm. Whilst Motivate is a firm favourite, I generally diffuse any of the citrus oils to lift my spirits. I cannot recommend it highly enough as a way to brighten your day. And if you or someone you know suffers from travel sickness - pop Peppermint in the diffuser to kick that nausea into touch!

USB Diffusers

These diffusers are fantastic for using in the car as they fit snugly into the cup holder. They are lightweight and ideal for taking on holiday to ensure that your hotel room smells just as you want it to. Usually priced around £20-£25.
Do check out November's Promotions (see below) because if you place an order this month worth 200PV, you will get NOT ONLY the Iris USB diffuser (above) for FREE but ALSO a 5ml Red Mandarin, 5ml Clementine and 5ml Kumquat. It is the perfect time to stock up on all the things you need in the coming weeks (have you run out of hand wash, toothpaste, vitamins, face cream?) or indeed to purchase gifts for others from the Seasonal Gifts range. Needless to say, it is also a great time to enrol as a new customer so that you can get your hands on these freebies and start making the most of your 25% wholesale discount.

A USB diffuser is a really handy thing to have but as you can see from the images below, there are other options available for diffusing in the car including a good old-fashioned Blue Peter style "here's one I made earlier" option made with cotton wool balls.

Cotton Wool Balls

Add 1-2 drops of oil to cotton wool balls and pop them into your car vents. They will keep free your USB port and your cup holder.

Air Vent Clip Diffuser
Add 2-3 drops of oil to the felt pad. Clip the Diffuser to an air vent, and let it go to work. The felt pads can be washed and re-used. These generally cost less than £5.

Necklaces and bracelets with lava stones or felt inserts are great if you want a particular scent close to you when you move about your day. Suffer from anxiety? Try adding a few drops of Peace or Vetiver to a necklace diffuser. Suffering from a bereavement? Try adding a few drops of Console or Cypress to a bracelet diffuser.

Lava Stone Diffuser Necklace

Add 3-4 drops of oil onto the lava stone and insert into the locket. Most necklaces come with 5 different coloured lava stones. Prices vary but you can expect to pay around £15-£25, depending on the style.

A great option for handbags, backpacks and lockers are Sachet Diffuser Packs - just add a few drops of an oil that makes you feel happy or comforted and you'll be pleased you've got one of these close by. If, like me, you often travel to work in a pair of flats / trainers and then change into a pair of heels or other shoes, the Sachet Diffuser Packs are really useful for popping into whichever shoes aren't on your feet at the time! I find that Elevation works really well in the backpack and Purify is a definite recommendation for stinky shoes! The keyring is another nifty option for keeping your favourite scent with you when you're out and about.
Sachet Diffuser Packs

Widely available online (and intermittently from dōTERRA), these sachet diffuser packs are great to pop into your gym bag, your lockers or cupboards at work, or into your shoes when you're not wearing them! Costs around £5.

Keyring Diffuser

Add 2-3 drops of oil onto the felt pad and insert into the keyring. I diffuse Serenity in my keyring and every time I arrive home, it reminds me that I am in my comfortable place. Costs around £5.
Last but most certainly not least, always remember that your hands make the perfect diffuser! Rub a drop or two of your chosen oil/s into the palm of your hands, cup them over your mouth and nose and inhale deeply. The perfect way to diffuse on the go! There is nothing like a bit of Eucalyptus to open the airways or Wild Orange to lift your mood and calm your mind. You can purchase the keychain which holds eight vials of oils of your choice if you don't want to carry 5ml or 15ml bottles around with you.
dōTERRA Keychain

Perfect for carrying your oils whenever you are on the move. The most difficult part is limiting yourself to eight oils! £6.60 with an account, £8.80 without.
I haven't included links to these items because I would thoroughly advise shopping around for the best bargains. Some items such as the Keychain are permanently available through dōTERRA, whilst others like the USB diffuser or the Sachet Diffuser Packs are only available to purchase now and again and quickly get snapped up. You can find some great buys on Ebay, Etsy, Essential Oil Supplies and Amazon.

Tried and Tested with Sylvia

One of my recipes this month was for a spray to use on those occasions when you need to use the loo but also want to leave a pleasant smell. Dotty’s Potty Spray is here for those awkward moments!

Dotty's Potty Spray

3 drops Eucalyptus
5  drops Lavender
10 drops On Guard
5 drops Melaleuca
10 drops Purify
5 drops Lemon

Water
Glass Bottle

Add the essential oils to a small spray bottle and fill with water. Shake well and spray into the loo before any action takes place!

Dotty's Potty Spray
This is another useful spray either to keep in your bathroom or to take with you in when you're out and about. The smell is quite gentle but extremely effective!

Bonfire Night Soup

As the nights draw in and the weather starts to become colder, I decided to try out a recipe for soup. I love a home-made soup (particularly if the vegetables are home grown as well) and this tomato and basil soup doesn’t disappoint.

RECIPE

1 can chopped tomatoes
2oz butter
1 can tomato soup
8 fl oz double cream, or half single cream and half double cream
6fl oz water
1 tsp sugar
1 chicken stock cube
1 sprinkle of dried basil
2 toothpicks dips of Basil oil
2 toothpick dips of Black Pepper oil
Ground Pepper, to taste

Mix tomatoes, water and stock cube in a saucepan and heat to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 10 minutes. Add the can of tomato soup,  cream (a spoonful at a time to avoid it curdling), butter, sugar, dried basil and the Basil and Black Pepper essential oils. You can add more dried basil or ground pepper to taste, but do not add more essential oil as it quickly becomes too powerful in flavour. Cook on a low heat until the butter is melted and the soup is hot and bubbly.
Bonfire Night Soup
What a gem of a recipe! It's quick and easy to make and tastes delicious. I tried this out on two builders who were working in the house and their verdict was: "stunning". High praise, indeed. I’ll be serving this up at our family bonfire night celebrations with some french bread and croutons.
