June 2019

Dotty Discovers Dusseldorf

The above photo brings me great joy. In it - left to right - is Sylvia (mammy), Caroline, my good self, Alex, Sereen and Jenny (with baby Nolan). We were all gathered together in Dusseldorf at the dōTERRA Discover European Conference for a jam-packed two days of training.

I don't have the space to do the event justice in this short newsletter but here are some headlines for you about the progress of dōTERRA in recent years.

Now in its 9th year, dōTERRA is the biggest and most trusted essential oils company in the world.
Over the past twelve months, dōTERRA has opened new offices in Russia, Munich, Brazil, Ecuador, Guatemala, Mexico, and the UK.
In 2018, over two million kilos worth of dōTERRA essential oils were consumed throughout the world.
As a direct result of its co-impact sourcing projects, dōTERRA has provided 122,095 jobs for people in developing countries and impacted 541,349 lives all over the world.

dōTERRA's 100% not for profit charity - The Healing Hands Foundation - has continued to work with international partners to fund projects such as:
Mircocredit Lending - providing credit to impoverished entrepreneurs in developing countries. These micro loans help businesses flourish and increase sustainable living among entrepreneurs and their families.
Days for Girls - providing personal reusable hygiene kits to girls in developing countries;

Operation Underground Railroad - assisting in building the first digital forensic laboratory dedicated solely to fighting child exploitation in South America. The lab provides training in online investigation and digital forensic evidence.
It's mind-blowing stuff, I'm sure you'll agree.

New Products
In May, I promised that I would be providing a snapshot of the new and exciting products coming out later this year. Well, the good news is, most of the products I was anticipating have been released this month. Yippee. The following products are all items that you can get your hands on straight away:

Green Mandarin

Hurrah for another citrus oil!
Citrus oils are known for their cleansing, uplifting and refreshing properties. Green Mandarin is no different, but the fruit is cold pressed before it ripens and it is therefore unique in that it has reduced photosensitivity.

I have diffused Green Mandarin (it's fruity and floral) but my favourite use so far has been to add a drop to water - it's really refreshing and tasty. I haven't yet added it to my home-made cleaning products but I will do because the limonene contained in it makes it a highly cleansing oil.

It costs £28.50 with an account and £38 without.

Pink Pepper
If you purchased the Harmony Kit earlier this year, you will already have tried both Pink Pepper and Green Mandarin.

Pink Pepper has an invigorating aroma and is relaxing to the nervous system. It is particularly good at supporting effective circulation and kick-starting metabolism. It can be used aromatically, topically or taken internally (just a drop is all you need!).

It costs £22.50 with an account and £30 without.

I have been waiting for sooooo long for this oil to be released!
For years, I have known that Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and boosts immunity. I often use it in my fresh juices - I love the taste, the colour and the aroma. Now that I have the oil I won't get caught out if I run out of the fresh stuff! Someone recently recommended adding a drop of the oil to warm coconut milk and I'll definitely be giving that a go.

Turmeric also promotes clear, smooth, and radiant-looking skin and so you can use it as a spot treatment or in an all-over face mask to help reduce the appearance of blemishes or for a healthy-looking overall glow.

If you suffer from joint pains, take Turmeric internally on a daily basis to support a healthy immune response. It has anti-rheumatic properties!

It costs £28.50 with an account and £38 without.

Magnolia Touch
Magnolia has a delicate and feminine aroma and is grown and harvested in China - it must be picked first thing in the morning or late in the evening.
In Chinese medicine, it is known for its emotional benefits as well as its fresh and compellingly sweet aroma. It is intended to help balance the body. Like Lavender and Bergamot, Magnolia is primarily linalool, which can help with feelings of stress or anxiousness.

I have used my Magnolia Touch as a perfume and it is light, fresh and floral. As it comes in a 10ml Touch roller bottle (comprising Magnolia essential oil and Fractionated Coconut Oil), it is easy to apply and is convenient to pop in your handbag for when you're out and about.

It costs £28.50 with an account and £38 without an account.

Kid's Collection
If you have children, the Kids Collection is going to be a game-changer for you! Friends of mine that have given these roller roller bottles to their children have reported huge successes with each and every oil. Is your child feeling anxious - whip out the Brave oil! Need some help getting settled before bed? Calmer is the one for you. I think this Collection would make an ideal gift.

dōTERRA has this to say: "Whether you are an experienced practitioner or new to essential oils, the Kid's Collection is the complete and ready-made 'whole body' essential oil toolbox designed to empower caregivers to confidently care for the health and wellness of little ones. Formulated specifically for developing minds, bodies, and emotions, these essential oil blends feature unique combinations therapeutically balanced to provide powerful benefits while being gentle on delicate skin".

The Kid's Collection contains six unique 10ml roller bottles: Thinker, Calmer, Stronger, Rescuer, Steady, Brave and comes with instructional flashcards, a carrying case and six silicone toppers with carabiners.

It costs £97 with an account and £129.33 without.
And there's more to come... other new products that are due out this year are the On Guard Mouthwash, YarrowPom essential oil and the Beautiful Hydrating Body Mist (this is non-greasy and smells divine). Keep an eye out for these in future newsletters.
Sixty Second Snippets

Sylvia and I have been posting a series of short videos in our Dotty's Oils Facebook Group. Our Sixty Second Snippets are being posted weekly and provide information about where dōTERRA essential oils are sourced, what they can be used for and how much they cost. So far we have provided information on Arborvitae, Basil, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Blue Tansy Cardamom, Cilantro, Cassia, Cedarwood and Cinnamon.

Tried and Tested with Sylvia
This month I tested out a floor cleaner suitable for a range of hard surfaces including wood, tile, vinyl, marble and stone. I have a stone floor in my kitchen and utility room and a wooden floor in my lounge. I used the cleaner on both surfaces.
Dotty's Floor Cleaner

 500ml warm water
125ml distilled white vinegar
60ml surgical spirits
A few drops washing up liquid e.g Fairy Original*
5-10 drops essential oil
*Do not use a washing up liquid that contains moisturising, anti-bacterial, or oxygenated bleach ingredients.

Add all of the above ingredients into a spray bottle and gently swirl to mix. Lightly spray 3-foot sections then wipe with a mop. You do not need to rinse after use.
Having used the cleaner, I have to admit that I could not see any visible difference compared to my usual product. The small amount of oil used - in my case, Lemon - was not enough to adequately scent the air (I would add at least 20 drops of essential oils for that purpose) and the cleaner did not perform any better than than my usual cleaner. On the plus side, the product is kind to the environment, can be used on several surfaces and is inexpensive. I will use this for small areas and in between my regular mopping.
Myrrh Foot Gel

A small glass jar
1tsp Aloe Vera Gel
3 drops Myrrh essential oil

Spoon the aloe vera gel into the jar and add the drops of Myrrh. Mix together thoroughly.

Myrrh is a great choice for applying on athlete’s foot, chronic wounds, ulcers and gum infections. It is reputed to reduce wrinkles, especially when blended with rose. Mixed into a base ointment, it can also be applied to hemorrhoids and minor bedsores.
I chose this ointment to complement my Melaleuca Ointment (recipe in March '19 newsletter). I am building up my store of alternative, natural products and this little gem has many uses - not all of which apply to me at the moment!
