330ml/11 fl oz Bicarbonate of Soda
125ml/4 fl oz Citric Acid
30-40 drops of dōTERRA Essential Oil*
1-2 tbs Water
Ice cube trays (preferably those with a silicon base so they will pop out easily)
Mix the bicarbonate of Soda, Citric Acid and essential oils together. Add the water, starting off with 1 tablespoon. Only add the other tablespoon of water if needed. The mixture should resemble slightly damp sand. Press into the ice cube trays but do not overfill.
Now this is the fun bit - the mixture will fizz and you’ll need to press it down HARD! Keep pressing it down until settles and leave to dry for 1-2 hours. Remove from the trays and store in an airtight container. Use as required.
Sylvia says: “This is a great recipe to try out with children.. They’ll love the chemical reaction and can help to squash the mix into the trays. My bathroom smells fresh and clean with the added bonus of knowing that there are no toxic ingredients in the product”.
2 tablespoons Bicarbonate of Soda
27fl oz/830ml Apple Cider Vinegar
6fl oz/180ml Hot Water
20 drops of dōTERRA essential oil - I used Geranium essential oil
1 large container (because of the bubble reaction)
Mix the water and apple cider vinegar together. Then - very slowly - add the Bicarbonate of Soda. Add the oil and shake well (this was the fun bit!).
Leave to settle and add 4 tablespoons per wash.
Sylvia says: “This is quite an expensive product to make unless you buy the Apple Cider Vinegar in bulk! The end result is good and my clothes smelled fresh and felt soft. It is great fun to make and you can use your favourite essential oil to customise the conditioner. The bonus is that this fabric conditioner will also clean your washing machine”.
